EMPIRE Presents RFS with a Big Challenge

Empire Cinema & Casino, Leicester Square, London

The Empire Leicester Square opened on the 8th November 1928. Originally owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer it has been at the heart of London’s Cinema history since the first moving pictures were shown in the old Empire, a music hall that pre-dated the current site.

Following recent rulings by the Office of Fair Trading a number of major cinema groups were required to divest significant numbers of cinema businesses. Empire has emerged as a new UK operator, with the flagship site within the new group being The Empire, Leicester Square from which the company has taken their name.

By the end of 2006 Empire Cinemas will operate 142 screens across the United Kingdom. With a continual investment program already in the pipeline.

Empire & RFS

After being invited to the project by the Main Contractor, we were given the complicated task of surveying the floors and providing an adequate specification in order to meet extremely tight schedule deadlines.

Both RFS and the Main Contractor quickly resolved how they would work in tandem in order to ensure a productive and professional service. Following several site visits, considerable trust and confidence had to be built up on both sides for such an all-embracing screed installation service to function well.

Retail Flooring Solutions Ltd then embarked on the task of installing over 1400m² of floor screeding to varying depths throughout the basement area of the development. Various problems had to be overcome including access, slab variation and inadequate minimum screed thicknesses.

Due to the extensive pre-contract surveys, RFS were able to effectively schedule the deliveries of screed within allocated time slots along with successfully accommodating space for deliveries by working in conjunction with the Main Contractor.
